For years, I’ve lived in carefully curated compartments—mother, wife, educator, and manager of my home—each role neatly tucked into its designated space, separate and contained. I built a life on consistency, predictability, and purpose, believing that keeping these different identities apart was the key to maintaining control. But now, as I sit with more stillness than ever before, I realize that not only is this separation unsustainable, but it’s also no longer something I desire.
Education will remain the foundation of this blog as it remains a consistent thread in my life, but alongside leadership strategies and insights for school administrators, I’ll be weaving in the personal journey I’ve avoided for so long. This space will be a place to explore what it means to integrate my whole self—sharing reflections on identity, the messiness of self-discovery, and how my evolving understanding of who I am informs my work in education.
And because I’ve always been a bit eclectic—drawn to music, movies, television, and the oddities of pop culture—those elements will naturally find their way in, too. Just as I’m learning to let my home self and work self coexist, I want this space to reflect the full spectrum of who I am.
For any fellow “misfits” out there—those who have struggled to fit into neat boxes, who feel the pull to be both professional and deeply personal, structured yet creative—this blog is for us. It’s about embracing all the pieces, and finding a way to show up fully, both in and beyond the workplace.
